Robson Associates Inc. was formed in 1988 under the corporate entity of Robson, McLean and Associates Ltd. The firm represents the continuation of a fee appraisal and consulting practice that originated in the Central Business District of Toronto in the early 1970s. The founding partners believed that there was a need for a specialized firm that would concentrate on industrial, commercial, expropriation, and litigation-oriented appraisals.
Robson Associates Inc. is a relatively small volume appraisal house that tends to specialize in “out of the ordinary” appraisal problems, often involving litigation. Over the years, the firm has been retained by a variation private and public entities to complete appraisal reports on several complex files, such as the 1988 Ataratiri expropriations; the Dundas Square redevelopment expropriations; the Etobicoke’s Motel Strip parkland requirements/expropriation; market rent arbitrations relating to ground lease renewal terms over a subsurface easement for the TTC subway; the feasibility of a hotel on Exhibition Place lands; plus various cash-in-lieu disputes.
The firm’s appraisal experience, largely concentrated within the Southern Ontario Area, is supplemented by Mr. Robson’s extensive appearances as an expert witness at all levels of courts, administrative tribunals, as well as before private arbitrators. Through continuing exposure to the industrial, commercial and development land markets and the ever-changing issues involved in the valuation process, our team of professionals is uniquely qualified to provide the expert assistance required by clients.
